VisionFund and World Vision continue to bring health insurance to registered children and their families in Bangladesh. Since December 2024, this initiative has been providing vital health coverage to more than 21,500 individuals across 5,500 families.
In June, a team from VisionFund visited the country to assess the first six months of implementation. The field visit involved in-depth consultations with the families covered by the program and local partners to plan the next steps toward long-term sustainability.
Through this initiative, we're not just delivering insurance—we're delivering resilience and hope. By protecting sponsored children and their families, we're helping communities stay strong in the face of life's uncertainties,
VisionFund Global Insurance Director Solene Favre said.
So far, the health services provided through the scheme have been used more than 1,300 times—an encouraging sign of both need and impact. This initiative is the result of strong collaboration between VisionFund, World Vision Bangladesh, and World Vision Australia, which is subsidising premiums for families in two area programs during the initial phase.
Communities have already saved over $6,000 in consultation fees through the telemedicine services made available via the health insurance program. This direct saving is a powerful demonstration of how accessible healthcare can protect families from financial shocks,
World Vision Bangladesh Strategic Leader in Development Dr. Rahul Mathew said.
The goal of the pilot is to demonstrate the value of health insurance and encourage families to continue their coverage through accessible and flexible premium payment options. Encouragingly, many families have already expressed satisfaction with the services and a willingness to begin saving small amounts to take over premium payments themselves.
As lessons continue to emerge from the pilot, VisionFund and World Vision are preparing to scale this model across Bangladesh and exploring its potential in other countries where World Vision operates.
