Impact Evaluation of VisionFund Ecuador's Insurance and Health Services
VisionFund Ecuador, in partnership with EGES Consultoría e Innovación, commissioned an independent, quasi experimental impact evaluation of the Familia Protegida (FP) insurance product to better understand its contribution to the wellbeing and resilience of low-income families. Using a mixed methods design that combines Banco VisionFund Ecuador’s administrative records with a representative client survey, the study applies Difference in Differences (DiD) analysis and provincial health shock data to estimate FP’s effects on healthcare access, financial resilience, and child wellbeing. The findings offer outcomes of how integrated microinsurance and health services can support vulnerable households—particularly women, migrant families, and clients facing health related shocks—and provide actionable insights to strengthen the product's impact.
