"Before the Empowered Worldview training, I struggled a lot with my business. I knew I needed to grow, but I had no idea how. I didn’t have the confidence to take bold steps," says Afia, a 44-year-old entrepreneur from the New Katamanso community in Ashaiman, Ghana.
As a wife and mother of two, Afia works hard to support her family. She started by selling onions to retailers, but the business at that time was slow. She didn’t have a shop and had to sell from her room. She often found it difficult to meet her children’s school needs. She wanted to expand, but without the right resources, she felt stuck.
Everything changed when a friend introduced her to VisionFund Ghana’s savings group. She took a loan to grow her onion business, and things started to improve. But her journey didn’t stop there.
Through the Empowered Worldview (EWV) training, Afia learned the power of looking within and using available resources to grow. She realized she had a supportive husband who could help her take a bold step, so she started a block factory business.
"The training taught me not to depend on anyone but to believe in myself. That’s when I got the idea to start the block factory," she recalls.
With confidence and determination, Afia expanded her business. She didn’t just stop at selling onions, she opened a shop to sell the onions in bulk, she added the sales of fresh Yam business, and she started a block factory with her husband. Built a public toilet to serve her community, and now she has acquired land to open another block factory at Dowenya.
What started as a small business inside her room has now grown into multiple thriving businesses! Her oldest son is now in university, and her youngest child is in junior high school. "Now, I can comfortably take care of my children’s school needs and even support my mother in the village. Life is no longer a struggle," Afia shares proudly.
The Empowered Worldview training didn’t just help her business, it transformed her mindset. She learned the importance of networking, sharing ideas with trusted friends, and taking initiative.
"I urge everyone who has the opportunity to join the Empowered Worldview program to take it seriously. What I have learned is more valuable than money. It has elevated my life in ways I never imagined," she says.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, the right mindset, and the courage to take bold steps, nothing is impossible. Today, Afia is not just running successful businesses, she is building a future for her children and creating opportunities for her community.
