Rising Above: The Inspiring Journey of a Female Loan Officer at VisionFund Ghana

Hard work and dedication lead to greater achievements, and no one exemplifies this better than Joyce Gomina Hotontie. Joyce's perseverance and resilience moved her from managing a modest portfolio of GHS 147,279.94 to achieving the largest portfolio in VisionFund Ghana in June 2024, cementing her reputation as the top loan officer.

VisionFund Ghana is a gender-inclusive institution that consistently ensures all female employees receive the necessary support to work comfortably and achieve optimal results in their assigned tasks.

As a loan officer at the WA branch, Joyce has deep roots in the WA community, where she grew up. Her fluency in the local languages helps her to connect with the community, and her passion to support the community's needs align perfectly with VisionFund Ghana's mission to alleviate poverty in rural areas. This shared passion for community upliftment inspired Joyce to join VisionFund Ghana in 2022.

Starting with a portfolio of GHS 147,279.94($9,422.90), serving 237 clients, and managing a portfolio at risk (PAR) of 7.17%, Joyce set out to make an impact both in her role and within her community. She embarked on a mission to grow her portfolio and reduce the portfolio at risk by dedicating herself to her clients and their success.

Through regular visits and daily interactions, Joyce leveraged her fluency in the Sisala language to effectively communicate the importance of timely loan repayments. Her efforts paid off, reducing the portfolio at risk from 7.17% to a remarkable 0.7%. Her ability to build trust and educate clients on wise borrowing practices and business growth contributed significantly to this achievement.

Joyce's commitment to community engagement and education didn't stop there. She expanded her inherited portfolio from GHS 147,279.94 ($9,410.86) to an impressive GHS 1,577,745.12($100,814.38). Her hands-on approach and dedication to educating communities on the benefits of loans and financial management resulted in a significant increase in her client base, growing from 237 to 1,858 clients.

Despite facing challenges such as initial client skepticism due to past fraudulent schemes from other institutions and fears surrounding group loans, Joyce's commitment to client support and business education turned the tide. She assured clients of the benefits and security of VisionFund Ghana's loans, encouraging them to invest in their businesses and trust the process.

Joyce Gomina Hohontie's journey at VisionFund Ghana is an inspiration, a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and commitment to community service. Her success story highlights her personal achievements and the transformative impact of VisionFund Ghana's mission in rural communities.
